Have You Been Waiting for Walter?
It’s been four months since Walter came into our care. Found as a stray at the estimated age of nine years, he was taken to the shelter. But he didn’t have to stay there long! Walter was quickly scooped up by his foster mom and is now living his best life in Toronto.
When Walter first came to BTRC, he was not neutered. He also needed an invasive (and expensive) hernia operation, some masses removed, and dental work. Walter is one tough cookie and came through it all with flying colors!
Walter has no issue showing loads of affection to everyone, especially his foster mom. He’s very trusting and will hop up on anyone’s lap for some love and cuddles
Because he is such a people dog, he isn’t the happiest when left on his own, so his mild anxiety at being separated from her people continues to be a work in progress. While not destructive, Walter gets restless and will cry, but his foster has full faith that this can be managed with patience and training.
Walter is great with other dogs of all sizes and has even met a few cats that he was gentle and sweet with. He was a bit of a humper with his male foster brother prior to his neuter, but that has now subsided.
As for kids, he spent a week with older kids and was great with them. He has only met one toddler and was a bit anxious so he’s searching for an adult home or a family with dog-savvy kids over the age of six.
Walter is housetrained and knows the basics – sit, down and shake paw. Stay – well – he’s getting better! He’s a smart boy with lots of playful energy and his favourite things are to sunbathe, snuggle in bed, go for walks and car rides. He’s great on a leash and in the car and not triggered by other dogs, the dreaded squirrels, or loud noises. He also never barks!
NOTE FROM WALTER’S FOSTER MOM: If I didn’t have two dogs of my own already, I would adopt Walter in a heartbeat. I was amazed at how quickly Walter naturally fit into our routine and how quickly he warmed up to me. He’s the sweetest most loving dog who has a lot of great years ahead of him and anyone would be very lucky to have him in their life.
WALTER • NEUTERED ADULT MALE • 9 YEARS • 16 LBS • DOG AND CAT FRIENDLY • KIDS 6+ • FOSTERED IN TORONTO, ON
Please Note: We do allow out-of-province adoptions, but it is the responsibility of the adopter to travel to meet and pick-up their new family member – we do not ship our dogs. From the time applications are opened, through the selection and screening process, adoptions can take approximately three weeks to finalize. We thank everyone who takes the time to apply, but only those who best fit each dog’s requirements in a forever home will be contacted.

Get Well Soon Walter!
Walter has had his surgeries and is now back at his foster home recovering. He needed an invasive procedure to repair a hernia, was neutered, and had a mass removed from his toe. This was not the only mass biopsied – there was also a mass in his prostate and two large masses in his testicles. We are relieved to report that none of the masses were malignant!
Walter has been a very brave boy – he is on pain meds, of course, but given that there were so many surgical incisions he is undoubtedly uncomfortable. Since the photos are quite graphic we have elected not to share them here, but you can visit this link instead if you wish to see: https://bostonterrierrescuecanada.online/walter-surgery
Get well soon Walter!

We get by with a LOT of help from our friends!
This sleeping angel is Penguin. And she is an angel – Penguin passed away at the age of 15 after living an amazing, love-filled life with her adoring family. Though not a BTRC alum, Penguin’s legacy lives on with her family’s kind and extremely generous support of dogs in our rescue program.
Recently, in Penguin’s memory, a substantial donation was made to cover Walter’s entire surgery! Everyone at BTRC was touched beyond what our words can express by the overwhelming generosity and caring of this amazing family. Wanting to remain anonymous, their motivation to give was simple: “We would love Walter to get a surgery as soon as he can so he will feel better. Sending a lot of love and positive energy to Walter!”
Although it hardly seems enough, from the bottom of our hearts, and most importantly, from Walter – THANK YOU!

WELCOME WALTER!
Well hello handsome!
BTRC’s newest arrival is a small, senior intact male who came to us from animal services as an unclaimed stray. He has a few medical concerns which will be checked out at his appointment this week, but so far has been a charming, affectionate and well-behaved addition to his foster home.
As he was a stray, he didn’t come with a history or a name. So once again we asked our social media supporters for their input, and paws-down, the favourite choice was Walter. Now this sweet boy has a new name to start his new journey to a loving, forever home.
Walter is being fostered in Toronto, Ontario and as he is still being assessed, no adoption applications are being accepted at this time.
