News on Nala

Nala came into BTRC foster care in October of last year. Nala’s issue is one of personal space – she has a ‘bubble’ that she feels the need to defend from any stranger who enters it, or anyone who tries to take something away from her.

All this time Nala has been working hard with her foster and a trainer to learn how to react more appropriately. While she remains standoffish with new people, she is a social butterfly with other dogs, so began attending a local doggy play group. Here she found her BFF – another Boston Terrier named Piper.

Although Nala has progressed very well in her training, we weren’t quite ready to put her up for adoption. With her behaviour quirks, Nala needs a very specific home that understands she must have consistent and continued positive reinforcement of what she’s learned.

But Piper really, REALLY wanted a sister. Add Nala into the equation, and well, two sets of Boston stinkeye are hard to ignore.

Fully understanding Nala’s needs, Piper’s family knew that they could offer Nala the right environment to thrive. And BTRC agreed. Now officially adopted and in her new home, Nala, with Piper, has already started training classes, and there are plans to enrol them both in agility in the future.

Everyone is very pleased about how things sometimes just work out, like they are just meant to be. Of course, no one is more pleased than Piper and Nala! 😉❤️

Introducing Nala

At just over a year of age, Nala is a shelter transfer – the facility did not have the resources to work with her on some needed behaviour rehab so reached out to BTRC to help. Although her sweet looks invite you in for a snuggle, Nala has been described as having a personal space ‘bubble’ and sometimes feels the need to defend it. She also has some resource-guarding issues.

We’re getting to know Nala, and will let you know as we learn more!

NOTE: Nala is being fostered in Ontario and is not yet ready to be considered for adoption. BTRC DOES NOT MAINTAIN A WAITING LIST, SO NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME.
