“Bugsy is home!”
…and he couldn’t be happier! Not only do four new humans equal plenty of playtime and snuggles, he’s also found a new best friend in his BT brother Louis.
Bugsy’s mom has continued with his leash training and he now follows Louis’ lead (no pun intended), politely sharing the sidewalk with passersby. Regular excursions on a forest trail near his home allow for plenty of nature exploration and squirrel watching. When it’s time to let loose, Bugsy’s signature move is running with ‘crazy eyes’ and his tail straight out. His mom claims that he uncurls his tail for less wind resistance. 😂
While indoors, Bugsy can be found playing the ‘bitey-face’ game with Louis or engaging in a mind-stimulating puzzle session. As both boys like the same puzzle best, Bugsy has learned to patiently wait for Louis to have his turn, but silently cheers him on by wagging his tail like a motor while his brother conquers the game! When Bugsy is ready for down time, you will find him nestled in the crook of his human brother’s arm, on the recliner with dad or under a blanket with Louis. Though naptime is a rare occurrence for full-of-beans Bugsy, when it does happen he makes sure it is in the perfect spot – right next to his family. ❤
Bugsy’s family couldn’t be happier with the new addition to their family and Louis loves his new playmate. His mom says, “He really is the happiest, loving boy. They both have so much love and attention to give their people…they are such a great match. I just love their fast friends connection! They are both beautiful souls and we are very lucky to have Lou and to have found Bugsy Boy.”
We couldn’t agree more. Congrats to Bugsy and his family!

Our beloved Bugsy can’t wait to become your forever buddy!
This handsome Boston Terrier-Pug mix came to BTRC because a change in his owner’s life meant he was not getting the time and attention he deserved. Choosing to surrender Bugsy was difficult, but they wanted him to have the best possible future. After getting to know Bugsy, it is very clear that he does indeed need a lot of time and attention. It is also clear that the future looks bright for this beautiful boy!
Bugsy has one mode – happy! When he looks at you, his eyes delightfully scream, “I love you!” He expresses joy, affection and appreciation at all times and, if you let him, he will put his paws on your shoulders and lock you into a big, loving kiss. Pug DNA has blessed him with a tail and it never stops wagging! He loves accompanying people during all activities – watering plants, vacuuming, laundry, home-office work – everything! All Bugsy wants is to be with his people. His favourite thing is playing with his BT foster sister and he will choose this over all other activities. Bugsy has had limited exposure to dogs and because his foster sister is so patient with him, he is very trusting of dogs. Bugsy is just shy of two years old, so he behaves like a typical younger brother – pushing his way to be first out the door, insisting that all treats and toys be shared and not fully understanding the idea of personal space. Bugsy would do well with a dog who is patient and willing to share and engage in lots of play. Though Bugsy is not an overly vocal dog, he loves to make noise during playtime, so a detached home with a fenced yard would suit his lively (and sometimes loud) energy.
Bugsy’s main goal is to love and be loved and he does so in a big way. Through training, he has learned to walk by people and dogs without pulling towards them or jumping up. This does not come naturally or easily for him, so his forever family must be committed to continuing his training. Door greetings are still a work in progress. Though he has improved at his grand receptions, sometimes he still jumps and attempts “in-the-air” kisses. He doesn’t greet his foster parents this way, however, as they are “old news.” 🙄 Bugsy has had children of all ages visit his foster home and he loves the fact that their energy level matches his! Because Bugsy still has a lot of puppy left in him and his play can sometimes be rambunctious, he would be best suited for an active family with a calm and tolerant canine and older children. He has not been tested with cats, so for everyone’s safety, Bugsy’s forever home must be feline-free.
Bugsy understands basic commands, is fully house trained, microchipped and has received all necessary vetting. He is an early riser but sleeps in his crate through the night (on occasion, when his foster dad sneaks him into the human bed, Bugsy sleeps soundly and is the perfect live teddy bear). He is crated when his foster parents go on short outings and because his foster parents work from home, he has not been left alone for long periods of time. Thus, Bugsy is best suited for a family that is home more often than not.
Though Bugsy still has work to do on his excitability and manners, he is a great student and willing to please. He learns quickly and enjoys training time (or maybe it is the treats that come with it!). His big personality and unconditional ways of loving are his most endearing qualities and part of the sparkle that makes him “Bugsy.”
If you are looking for a loving, playful and active companion and committed to giving Bugsy the ongoing training he needs, please complete the Adoption Form, found HERE.

Bugsy – the dog that never stops smiling!
Mr. Bugsy has been very busy since coming into BTRC’s care. His daily schedule is filled with important things like walks, chewing his bone, games of fetch, snack time, playing with his BT foster sister and snuggles. He is less enthusiastic about his daily training and relaxing exercises though – he has attempted to decline those calendar invites from his foster mom, but apparently, they are mandatory. 🙄
Bugsy is a happy dog who loves everyone he meets. His tail is always wagging – even when he sleeps! On walks, he shows humans and dogs his love and excitement by jumping on them and kissing them – and this isn’t always appreciated. His foster mom is working on showing Bugsy that affectionate gestures shouldn’t always be so grand.
Bugsy’s previous home did not have another dog, but you wouldn’t know it by how well he plays with his foster sister. Bugsy takes his foster sister’s cues and understands when she corrects him. He also happily shares his toys, bones and treats. Unlike his foster sister, though, Bugsy is not a fan of sunbathing. While she lounges outside in the sun, Bugsy would rather be indoors keeping cool. He is a quick learner and after only a few days, now understands that human mealtime means naptime for Bugsy. (During these “naps,” he sometimes keeps one eye open just in case a crumb might fall. No luck yet!).
Bugsy’s foster mom is working with him on basic commands. He seems to think that every command means “kiss” and he looks very proud of his accomplishments after each try.
Bugsy, it seems like your kiss credentials might get you some adoring fans! 😘
Bugsy is being fostered in the Halton Region of Ontario and is not yet ready to be considered for adoption.

Introducing Bugsy!
Bugsy came to rescue because a change in his owner’s life meant he was not getting the time and attention he deserved. Choosing to surrender Bugsy to BTRC was a heartbreaking decision, but his owner wanted to give him the best possible future.
A Boston-Pug mix, the name Bugsy is very fitting for this adorable boy! He is not quite two, so he still has the energy, curiosity and playfulness of a puppy. In the short time we have known Bugsy, he has shown that he sleeps soundly in his crate and enjoys time outdoors. On a recent trip to the pet store for a new harness, he was a very good boy when interacting with humans and being near other dogs. Walks, however, bring out Bugsy’s rambunctious side. The prospect of meeting potential new friends, both human and canine, is very exciting for him and he sometimes forgets his manners. His foster mom is working with him on his meet-and-greet etiquette.
We look forward to getting to know Bugsy as he settles into his foster home.
Newly arrived Bugsy is not yet ready to be considered for adoption.
