Chico is home!
We are happy to announce that Chico has been adopted, and everyone is very pleased with just how quickly he seems to have made himself at home. He’s been soaking up an abundance of love and attention from his humans and playtime with his new BT sister, Ellie. Ellie, as it turns out, is both expert level at the bitey-face game and a gifted chase-around-the-kitchen-island player. Chico has been doing his part for Ellie, too. Being a foodie, he has introduced the sometimes-selective Ellie to the joy of cleaning up your dish!
Chico and Ellie both enjoy regular hikes with the family, too. Recently, while out in the woods, Chico spotted something familiar in the distance. In a moment of sheer passion – one deserving of an on-screen slow-motion run – Chico and his foster brother, BTRC alum Herb, greeted each other with shrieks and kisses. After a brief catch-up, these good friends were content to head off to their respective homes, knowing they would undoubtedly cross paths again.
Congrats to Chico and his family. We can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Chico, Mr. Steal Your Girl, is ready to steal your heart!
This handsome boy came into rescue because the tiny new human in his home had extreme allergies to pet dander. Deeply loved by his family, it was hard to part with Chico, and we can see why. He is a loving, energetic and clever boy who leaves a positive lasting impression on everyone he meets – both human and canine!
Chico is four years old and in good health. Shortly after his arrival, he was given a full vet check-up. BTRC had him neutered and microchipped, updated his vaccines, tested for parasites and put on prevention. He has since enjoyed his time in foster care working on basic manners, crate training and social skills.
Chico is a LOVER and has yet to meet a human he does not like! He greets visitors with great enthusiasm and sometimes it’s challenging to keep all four on the floor. Since coming into care, Chico has worked hard to master a calmer style of hello, but his big heart and passion for company can sometimes make him forget his manners. Because he loves so hard, he often forgets his size (a solid 24 lbs) and strength. Chico is better suited to an active, adult-only home or one with older children who are sturdy on their feet.
The same thing goes when meeting new dog friends. While Chico has become more adept at controlling his excitement, there may still be occasions where his initial greeting is as subtle as a freight train. Careful introductions will always be important so that other dogs don’t misread his energy as something less than friendly.
Chico has made fast friends with his foster brother, BTRC alum Herb, and other pals that come to visit his foster mom at Salty Dog Pet Sitting. Chico would greatly benefit from a home with a dog, as he loves companionship and play. Chico’s ideal sibling would be of similar size and age and happy to engage in his all-time favourite ‘bitey-face’ game or a good match of tug. A rambunctious dog would not be a the best fit for Chico, as he needs a calm canine companion to be a good role model. Chico has lived with a feline in foster and would be okay with a dog-savvy cat.
Work from home? Chico would love this! He is very much his foster mom’s shadow and will follow her from room to room or spy from the window if she is outside (he wants to make sure that the garbage is taken out properly…but more so, that she is returning quickly for more snuggles). Though he is comfortable in his crate and content to snooze while his foster mom is gone, he is happiest with his people and is best suited for a family that is often home and can include him in many activities.
Like many Bostons, Chico can be found nesting in a cozy bed or sunbeam, but also loves his walks. He is a strong boy, actively working on his leash manners. Though improving on strolls through the neighbourhood, it is in the woods where Chico gets his A++ report card. His foster mom goes hiking at least once or more a week and Chico has become an excellent hiking companion! An adaptable fella, Chico is content to follow suit with any activity, but because his foster family is outdoors so often he hopes his forever family shares his love of activity and nature.
In the eyes of his foster family, Chico is pretty perfect. His foster mom says, “We are privileged to have welcomed such a sweet boy into BTRC. He has greatly improved his basic doggy life skills and has made many friends. He will still need some patience on leash walks, with greetings and a watchful eye or crate to make sure he’s not getting into things. But overall, whoever gets to welcome him into their home will be incredibly lucky. We are going to miss him (most especially Herb)!” ❤

Chico loves Chillin’!
Chico is a happy, playful and energetic dog who has made many new friends since coming into BTRC’s care. The art of “chillin”, however, did not come naturally for this lively pup!
It took some convincing, but his housemates, BTRC foster Stitch, BTRC alum Herb and professional foster sister Azalea have finally been able to convince Chico that relaxing for some downtime means you can recharge and energize for even more play. Well, upon hearing the words “energize” and “play” Chico was sold! Now, he waits patiently for his foster siblings and friends to wake up, eagerly anticipating the fun that follows.
Chico is being fostered in Halifax, NS and is not yet ready to be considered for adoption.

Chico Update
There is never a dull moment with Chico! He’s been having fun with his three foster siblings and many doggy visitors. Initially pushy upon meeting new dogs, Chico is learning how to politely introduce himself and engage in mutual play. When a dog is not interested, Chico’s foster mom is teaching him to walk away instead of insisting the dog plays with him. Though this isn’t always easy for this lively pup, Chico has a few foster siblings willing to help him with his manners.
Chico’s foster brother, BTRC alum Herb, has taught him the game of ‘tug’ and is hoping that he will soon learn how to navigate the “peekaboo under the blanket” game. It’s not that Chico isn’t willing to play, he just doesn’t fully understand how it works yet!
Spa days are not on Chico’s list of favourites, but he obligingly participates in baths and nail trims. He does enjoy “rest and relaxation,” however. You will often find him suntanning with his siblings and canine friends, welcoming warm snuggles from whoever is willing!
On his most recent vet visit, Chico was a very good boy. Pre-op blood work was done to prepare him for his upcoming neuter. His foster mom is exploring new food options that allow Chico to savour his delicacies instead of swallowing them whole. He doesn’t understand what the big deal is though – less time spent eating means more time for play!

Introducing Chico!
Four-year-old Chico came into BTRC’s care because his young human sister suffers from a severe skin issue that was exacerbated by animal dander. Much-loved by his family, this was an agonizing decision for them to have to make.
Apparently Chico can be a little ‘extra’ when meeting new canine friends, so as is usual procedure, introductions will be slow and careful during his integration into a multi-pet foster household. So far there’s been no doubting his enthusiasm!
There will be more to report after he has had a chance to de-stress and get used to all the new things.
Chico is being fostered in Halifax, NS and is not yet ready to be considered for adoption. BTRC needs a chance to understand his personality better and he’ll need some vet care including neuter before he’s ready to find his match in a new home.
