In Memory of Boomer
This is a very difficult post to make. On July 5, 2022, BTRC alum Boomer crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Boomer had more than his fair share of medical challenges in his far-too-short life. Sadly, despite all efforts of his mom and their veterinary team, Boomer experienced a series of cluster seizures of increasing severity, and the heart wrenching decision was made to end his suffering. He died peacefully in his mom’s arms while she kissed his sweet head.
It’s unbearably sad and unfair that this loving, happy boy lived only 3 years. But we know beyond a doubt that the 379 days he spent in his adoptive home were his happiest. Boomer knew this was where he was supposed to be from the first day he walked in. He immediately made himself at home on the couch – and in the human bed with his mom and BTRC alum brother Motley from the first night onward.
His mom writes, “I am so grateful that Boomer was mine this past year. He was one of the sweetest boys I have ever met, and he sucked up all the love he could get and gave it back tenfold, he had a lot of people under his spell. What a wonderful gentle soul he was. Motley loved him too…”
While in rescue, Boomer had so much generous support from BTRC’s amazing community. And Boomer gave back in the last year, taking part in a charity walk for Meals on Wheels, participating in the East York Canada Day celebrations, and being a gracious host to BTRC president Tina Daquano on Pride weekend to list just a few ways he made the lives of those around him brighter.
Boomer recently spent a day in Bobcaygeon. Which is fitting, because as a new shining star in the heavens himself, we know that Boomer can now see the constellations reveal themselves one star at a time. ✨
Boomer – you were deeply loved and will be greatly missed. But you will never be forgotten. ❤️

Happy Birthday Boomer! ️
BTRC alum Boomer celebrated his third birthday on March 15, 2022! 🎉🥳
Boomer is doing great with his mom and canine sibling Motley, also a BTRC alum – you will often find the boys snuggled up together. Boomer’s seizures are for the most part controlled with medication, and he is a happy, goofy and undeniably adorable fellow living his absolute best life!
Fun fact: Boomer was officially adopted on October 22, 2021, and this is a special date for his family. Two of his mom’s previous Boston Terriers, Nipper and Bandit, were born on October 22, and it was also the date that Motley was adopted from BTRC – ten years earlier in 2011!
Happy Three Boomer! ❤️

October 2021 – Boomer is Adopted! ️
Boomer joined BTRC eight months back and has been in foster care on a medical hold since his arrival.
This past week a wonderful thing happened. Boomer’s foster mom decided to make him a permanent member of her family!
Boomer went through his own share of medical challenges, and has now been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. His foster-turned-adoptive mom has educated herself about living with a dog with seizures and has also worked out a care plan with the vet. Boomer is a silly guy, BFFs with his BTRC alum brother, and very happily settled into his forever home.
We could not be happier to announce that Boomer is now officially ‘home’! 🏠❤️🐾

September 2021 – Boomer Update

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with foster boy Boomer. If you recall back in the spring, he had corrective surgery to repair his “plumbing”. He has recovered fully. Thank you again to everyone who purchased a pair of BTRC socks to rock ‘em for Boomer’s veterinary bills!
Unfortunately though, since that time, Boomer has had two seizures. When Boomer first arrived in rescue, he had recently been critically ill with no identified cause, so he had a thorough checkup by veterinary specialists and a full range of diagnostics. Since all those test results were normal, and all other diseases ruled out, we are now looking at a diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy.
Boomer will remain in rescue for the time being, as we monitor him to be sure his treatment regimen is correct, and his seizures continue to be controlled.
Boomer remains a happy, goofy and quirky dog and he is loving life with his foster mom and his canine foster brother.

Boomer is on the mend!
BTRC foster Boomer had his corrective surgery to repair his penis and was neutered. He is recovering nicely. He’s being an exceptionally good boy and doesn’t even seem too bothered by the dreaded cone he has to wear as his incisions heal.

Happy Birthday Boomer and Welcome to BTRC ️
New to Rescue, Boomer was surrendered because his family could not provide the extensive medical care he needed. This handsome boy has had some serious medical challenges in his life. Our greatest wish for Boomer as he celebrates his second birthday is for good health and many more fun-filled years – and we’re going to do all we possibly can to make this wish come true.
Boomer’s initial medical crisis pointed to “hepatic encephalopathy” – a brain condition caused by advanced liver disease. His symptoms were sudden and severe. Fortunately, we were able to get him to an internal medicine specialist quickly for a full range of diagnostics. His liver function seems to be returning to normal, although why his liver failed remains a mystery.
Although we are assured that his condition is no longer life-threatening, Boomer is still experiencing some side effects. His veterinary team is working to identify any underlying medical diseases and a treatment plan.
In an unrelated issue, Boomer does not have a penile sheath, which means his penis is fully exposed. He also has an enlarged prostate. Another consult by a surgical specialist recommended he be neutered as soon as possible, and, at the same time, his penis can be repaired.
Even with all these things going on, Boomer is sweet, affectionate and loves to give kisses. The vet staff told us that “Boomer was such a good boy” during all their poking and prodding. To reward his bravery at the vet’s, and to celebrate the occasion of his second birthday, Boomer will be having a little party with his foster parents and foster Boston siblings.
Boomer deserves every chance to get well and to live a happy, healthy life. Veterinary care so far has cost just shy of $2,000.00, with more testing to come, and the quote for his neuter and surgery is $3824.53.

We have also launched a special fundraiser – “Rock the Socks for Boomer” to help pay for his medical expenses.
NOTE: Boomer is being fostered in Eastern Ontario and is on a medical hold. He is not yet ready to be considered for adoption.
